3DS multi game card has a button and an indicator lite that blinks when the game is switched. You insert the 3DS multi game cartridge in to your console and play (no other setup needed). When you want to play another game you push the button on the cartridge and the led will indicate the the cart has switched to the next memory bank and you will see another game in the 3DS menu. So simple that a 3 year old can do that, but as you know 3DS is advised for 7+ so in case your kid has a 2DS we can assure that it is not a problem - the multi-game cart is fully compatible with 2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL and the New 3DS and the latest firmware updates from the Nintendo!
